Tony Vasil is the latest Victorian trainer to be fined $10,000 for administering a raceday treatment.
Vasil appeared before Racing Victoria stewards in Melbourne on Monday at an inquiry stemming from the late scratching of Classic Elle at the Moonee Valley night meeting on January 25.
Classic Elle was scratched less than 20 minutes before she was due to race after stewards considered a report from the Compliance Assurance Team who had randomly visited Vasil’s stables in the afternoon.
Stewards ruled after Monday’s inquiry that Vasil, on the balance of evidence, had administered a raceday treatment to Classic Elle.
Vasil suggested a mark on Classic Elle’s neck could have been made by “a wire prong” on a stable gate but stewards were not convinced.
They found him guilty of administering or causing to be administered Diurex and/or other unknown substances to Classic Elle by way of an injection.
Vasil’s fine is the same as that given to Robert Smerdon, Ricky Maund and Jim Conlan late last year.
