Mornington trainer Jim Conlan has been fined $10,000 for the raceday treatment of star galloper Rekindled Interest.
The decision follows a raid by Racing Victoria stewards on Conlan’s stables on October 6, before Rekindled Interest was due to run in the Group One Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at Flemington.
He is the third trainer to recently escape with a fine for treating a horse on the day of a race, following similar penalties handed down to Robert Smerdon and Ricky Maund.
Stewards alleged that Rekindled Interest was treated with an “unknown medication” by way of an injection.
Blood and urine samples taken from the horse revealed no prohibited substances as stewards warned of stiffer penalties for raceday treatment in the future.
Rekindled Interest finished 10th in the Turnbull and his spring came to an end with an inglorious last in the Cox Plate.
