Sweet Ella may have earned an interstate trip after relishing a drop in class to win at Caulfield.
The three-year-old filly side-stepped Friday night’s Group Two Fillies Classic (1600m) won by Empress Rock for Saturday’s No Fuss Solutions Plate (1600m) with trainer Greg Eurell believing she was better suited away from Moonee Valley.
“We had a sneaky look at the Valley last night but she’d had one run there and didn’t go that well,” Eurell said.
“This was a good opportunity to see her over a mile without any question marks and we will have a look at the book now and see where we go with her.”
He said Sydney and Adelaide races were both options for the talented filly who has won four of her seven starts.
Ridden by Chris Symons, she looked hard to beat on her last-start sixth to Empress Rock in the Kewney Stakes (1600m) at Flemington and she finished strongly from midfield on Saturday to score a three-quarter length win over frontrunner Spelldancer and Invest.
“She is very, very much a racehorse,” Eurell said.
“Once you put that pedal down she pins her ears right back and wants to get to the line really hard.”
Eurell said Sweet Ella’s relaxed racing style may suggest she will be suited to longer races and is now keen to give her another crack at the better fillies.
“We put the toe in water last start in the Kewney and I liked the run,” Eurell said.
“If she holds together we will give her another try at that level and the good thing about her is that I think she is even better in the wet.”
Favourite Assertive Eagle ($3.30), who was second in the Kewney, was one of the first horses beaten on Saturday and finished seventh.
Jockey Andrew Stead said she raced flat and was ready for a spell.
