The potential of unbeaten colt Sessions will be further examined at Rosehill on Saturday and jockey Peter Robl is expecting the three-year-old to take another giant leap forward.

Robl partnered Sessions for the first time when the son of Lonhro returned from a lengthy absence with a win at Rosehill earlier this month.

Injury has restricted Sessions to just two starts but the Peter Snowden-trained runner has had a boom on him since he won at the official two-year-old trials in September last year.

Snowden even said Sessions was considered the Darley team’s leading two-year-old at that time.

“I’m looking forward to riding him again. You’ll get a proper guide on the horse’s ability come Saturday, more than what you did first-up,” Robl said.

“I feel he’ll take a giant leap.”

Sent out a short-priced favourite first-up, Sessions led a small four-horse field and held on to beat Catkins by half a length despite getting tired late.

They spaced the other runners by more than four lengths.

“He was a bit fresh and a bit above himself first-up and that would have done him the world of good,” Robl said.

“I thought it was a good win. The plan wasn’t to lead but he just found himself there and Catkins is no slouch either.”

Having missed the entire spring carnival, Sessions is expected to head for another break after Saturday and be aimed at the autumn carnival where feature three-year-old races will be on the radar.

He is an odds-on favourite to remain unbeaten on Saturday.

“He has trimmed up since his win the other day and hopefully we’ll see a more professional performance on Saturday,” Snowden’s Sydney stable foreman Brad Widdup said.

“He looks great.

“I’d say Peter would want to get him out (in the paddock) after this and Melbourne would probably be out for him in the autumn.

“I think he’ll wait for the Sydney carnival.”
