Two-year-old Santa Fe Sun could join Gerald Ryan’s Queensland winter carnival team if he turns in an impressive display at Rosehill on Saturday.
Santa Fe Sun steps out for his first city assignment in the Power Access Plate (1200m) on the back of a three length debut win at Muswellbrook over 1000m.
“I’ll just see how he goes tomorrow,” Ryan said.
“If he went super well I might take him to Queensland either for the Dalrello Plate or if he’s going to run a mile go to the TJ Smith.
“Or I could also just put him out in the paddock.”
The Listed Darello Plate (1200m) is at Doomben on June 11 with the Group One TJ Smith (1600m) run at Eagle Farm two days earlier.
Ryan said although Saturday’s race was a test for the colt, Santa Fe Sun had shown similar ability to one of his stakeswinning stablemates who has been competitive during the Brisbane winter.
“He’s on a par with Dances On Stars,” Ryan said.
Santa Fe Sun will again by ridden by Josh Parr and among his opponents is another debut winner Kabayan.
Ryan said Santa Fe Sun had come through his debut win in good style.
“He’s always shown nice ability. Tomorrow is his test but I quite like the horse,” Ryan said.
Kabayan was the $2.90 favourite with TAB Sportsbet on Friday with Santa Fe Sun on the fourth line at $8.50.
Ryan has six runners set to compete at Rosehill on Saturday while Ironstein contests the Group Three Premier’s Cup (2200m) at Doomben on the back of his last start second in the Chairman’s Handicap (2000m).
“He’s going terrific,” Ryan said.
“He’s improving after each run and he’s drawn better tomorrow in a similar race.”
