Tracey Bartley will look at raising the bar for San Zaim on the back of the mare’s first Saturday metropolitan win at Rosehill.
With apprentice Lauri Wray replacing an ill Jackson Matthews, San Zaim ($9) powered to the line for a two-length win over Disputes ($14) in the Santos Coffee Cup (1400m) on Saturday.
Wray settled San Zaim fifth early and let her find her feet before asking her for an effort in the straight.
“She is a nice mare and I think she is going places,” Bartley said.
“Her last start took a bit out of her.
“It told on her later.
“It was a Benchmark 80 today and I think she can step up another notch now.
“Lauri gave her a gun ride.”
Bartley told Wray, who is indentured to Mark de Montfort at Warwick Farm, not to push to the lead if something else wanted to take up the running.
It was Fox ($8.50) who went to the front and led the field around the turn.
Fox held on well to finish fourth with $4 favourite Haut Ton seventh without ever looking like the winner.
