Girl power will be to the forefront at Coffs Harbour on Friday with Port Macquarie trainer Jenny Graham, apprentice Samantha Munro and five-year-old sprinting mare, Rip This.
Rip This tackles the Watsons Caravans Class 3 Handicap over 1000 metres and Graham is confident, given a dry track, the daughter of Marwina can figure prominently.
“Provided she gets a good racing surface, she’ll run a very nice race,” Graham said.
“She just doesn’t perform on wet tracks. I won’t even attempt to run her on them anymore.
“She’s done real well since last start and worked good Tuesday. I’m very happy with the way she’s going.
“Hopefully it’s one for the girls.”
Rip This was bred by Wayne Gleeson and is raced by a syndicated headed by his wife, Amanda.
Gleeson and Graham have enjoyed success over the years particularly with Eripsni, a seven-year-old mare and winner of six from 30 starts.
The lightly raced Rip This has recorded three wins and four placings from 11 starts.
Ridden by Robert Thompson, Rip This resumed with a stunning four length win over 1000m on October 7.
She was then was all at sea when five lengths sixth to Floral Insight over the same distance on a slow track at Taree on October 25.
“She’s not a very big mare but a very easy horse to handle around the stables,” Graham said.
“In her work you can usually tell how she’s going.
“She works hard, gets on with the job. That’s just her.
“She showed on Tuesday, zipping home the last 200 metres, she’s ready to run well tomorrow.”
Rip This has drawn ideally in barrier one and after Munro’s 1.5kg claim gets in with 56kg.
Munro, who is with Ross Stitt at Taree, was country NSW’s leading apprentice last season.
