John Thompson will be out to continue his rich vein of form with two-year-olds when he starts a trio of youngsters at Warwick Farm on Saturday.
The Patinack Farm trainer produced his 19th juvenile winner for the season when Sookie scored at Doomben on Wednesday.
It came just four days after youngster Destruction scored an explosive debut victory at Rosehill.
Thompson will get the chance to add to that tally on Saturday with Nechita in the Ambassador Travel Services 2YO Plate (1100m) and New Spur and Prince Of Song in the Regupol Equine Safety Surfaces 2YO Hcp (1400m).
Like Destruction, Nechita is by sire of the moment Fastnet Rock.
She defeated Saturday’s BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes favourite Sizzling in a barrier trial at Doomben in December but had a subsequent setback and was tipped out.
“She pulled a muscle after the trial so we put her straight in the paddock,” Patinack Farm’s racing manager Robyn Hartney said.
“But she showed in that trial that she had ability and she’s showed it in her two trials here.
“There was a lot of talk after her first trial, a few people thought she had him (Sizzling) done, that he didn’t have a lot up his sleeve.”
Nechita has had two recent trials in Sydney to prepare for her debut, winning her most recent by almost eight lengths.
Hartney said the stable had a good opinion of her, not dissimilar to the regard they held for Destruction prior to his winning debut.
“They’ve both shown quite a lot, not just at the trials but also on the track,” she said.
“We expect her to run really well.”
The expectations are more modest for both New Spur and Prince Of Song who are both works in progress.
“New Spur has been a slow learner,” Hartney said.
“John would say that whatever he does this preparation he will improve on when the penny drops.
“Prince of Song is a nice, big, leggy horse and after his trials John thinks he’s a mile (1600m) to 2000-metre horse.
“He’s in that same bracket in that whatever he does as a two-year-old he’ll improve on with time and distance.”
As for Destruction, the youngster won’t be heading to Brisbane for the TJ Smith Stakes and is instead likely to run again in Sydney on Saturday week.
The stable plans to give him a light campaign and bring him back in the spring for a race like the Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington.
