Leading trainer Peter Moody says Mr Make Believe, Victoria’s “winningest” galloper this season, has held his condition well as he tries to make it five straight metropolitan wins at Caulfield.
The rising five-year-old, after his eighth win this season in Saturday’s Sandown Park (UK) Hcp (1400m), is one win ahead of star stablemate Black Caviar, Aloha and Dance With Her.
The David Brideoake-trained Dance With Her ($4) could level up with Mr Make Believe in Saturday’s Veronica Jamison Hcp (1800m).
“He’s in great form and he’s held his condition well,” Moody said of Mr Make Believe.
“I’ve been waiting for him to indicate that he might have had enough at each of his last couple of runs but he’s come home and thrived.
“He looks well placed again. He races on or about the speed and makes his own luck.
“He’s doesn’t know how to run a bad race and there is no reason why he won’t run well again.”
The Commands gelding, the winner of eight of his 12 starts, has won three of four starts on heavy tracks and is unbeaten in three dead track runs.
The Caulfield track was on Friday rated a dead (5).
“He won well on dead tracks at his last couple so that won’t stop him. He’s just a winner, he keeps trying hard,” Moody said
Stable apprentice Daniel Stackhouse, unbeaten in two rides on Mr Make Believe ($2.80 fav), retains the mount on Saturday.
The Moody stable will saddle three runners in the event with Ben Melham riding Sheedy ($17) and Dwayne Dunn aboard Ishant ($41).
