The order of entry for Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup remains an intriguing puzzle following second declarations this morning.
As it stands currently, both Caulfield Cup placegetters – Tullamore and Green Moon – would miss out on a run.
However, with as many as four horses above him looking unlikely, Tullamore should get a run in the race that stops the nation.
For Green Moon, however, the equation is simple – he must win Saturday’s Lexus Stakes if he is to gain a run.
Metropolitan Handicap winner The Verminator is also just outside the top 24, but looks as though he should make the field.
He runs in the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) on Saturday.
English trainer Brian Ellison’s pair, Moyenne Corniche and Saptapadi, remain stranded just outside the top 24, as does the Luca Cumani-trained Bauer.
Wednesday’s Bendigo Cup and Saturday’s Lexus Stakes will prove crucial for horses further down the order as they attempt to gain a run.
