Trainer Rodger Waters and jockey Bryan Murphy look set to continue their recent winning run with Bosworth Park at Wagga on Thursday.
The Australia Day meeting is always a major event on Wagga’s racing calendar and Waters and Murphy hope to fly the flag for the locals with the in-form galloper in the Riverina Terrazzo Tile Boutique Benchmark 45 (1400m).
Bosworth Park was successful at Towong two starts ago before an eye catching third behind the promising Sand Dune at Wagga on January 13.
Waters and Murphy, who won the Wagga Town Plate more than a decade ago with Allez Cheval, have had a winning run over the past few weeks with Exchancellor also winning his past two starts at Gundagai and Albury.
While Exchancellor cost more than $300,000 as a yearling when purchased by Gai Waterhouse, Bosworth Park is on the other side of the scale costing nowhere near as much.
He is raced by a group of local owners who have had several horses with Waters over the years.
Bosworth Park is ideally drawn in barrier one and only needs to reproduce his last start run to record the second win of his nine start career.
Meanwhile, Wodonga trainer Stephen Aldridge believes stablemates We Are One and Instyle Ben need to produce something extra to return to the winners list in the Class 1 (1000m).
Despite having numbers on his side, Aldridge is far from confident.
“Instyle Ben won nicely in maiden class and her last run at Wagga was too bad to be true,” Aldridge said.
“She went from travelling well to gone in one stride.
“I couldn’t find anything amiss with her and I’m hoping she can bounce back because on her work she will be hard to beat.
As for We Are One, he is being aimed at the Tumbarumba Cup meeting on February 11.
The galloper has been out of form and is yet to show up in a few starts for Aldridge.
“He was actually retired, but the owners wanted him to come back in work so he could race at Tumbarumba,” Aldridge said.
“It’s his first start for 13 months so it’s hard to say how he will go.”
We Are One is part-owned by Steve Morrison of Tumbarumba.
