Undefeated Australian champion sprinter Black Caviar has been relegated to the second-highest rated racehorse in the world by unbeaten English star Frankel.
Frankel became the highest-rated miler in the seven-year history of the World Thoroughbred Rankings (WTR) by lifting his rating to 135 with his ultra-impressive victory in the Group One Sussex Stakes (1600m).
The latest rankings were released on Friday.
His outstanding performance in defeating Canford Cliffs by five lengths marks him as the best miler since the WTR started in 2004.
You have to go back to 1984 under the former International Classifications to find a higher-rated miler, El Gran Senor (138).
Black Caviar didn’t race in the period covered by the latest round of rankings from June 26 to July 31 and thus was unable to improve her rating.
The Peter Moody-trained Black Caviar had previously shared the top spot with Frankel on 130.
Dual Cox Plate winner and headline nomination for this year’s event, So You Think, now trained by Aidan O’Brien in Ireland, occupies sixth position with a rating of 126.
