The odds of star Queensland sprinter Buffering claiming his first Group One in the BTC Cup are likely to lengthen following a horror barrier for Saturday’s feature at Doomben.
Buffering was the $2.40 favourite with TAB Sportsbet before coming up with gate 14 in the 15-horse field at Wednesday’s barrier draw.
The draw was also unkind to Group One Galaxy winner Temple Of Boom who drew the outside gate.
Temple Of Boom’s trainer Tony Gollan will also start Spirit Of Boom who fared better with barrier two.
The John O’Shea-trained Sea Siren came up with gate five while Victorian mare Varenna Miss drew barrier four.
Last year’s Doomben 10,000 winner Beaded has drawn in the middle of the field in eight.
Trainer Rob Heathcote, who will also saddle up Woorim from barrier seven, was reluctant to reveal his tactics with Buffering after the draw.
“I’m not going to formulate any plans just now and I’ll probably leave it up to Nash Rawiller to work out,” Heathcote said.
“There’s no better judge on a frontrunner than Nash Rawiller.”
