Gai Waterhouse has had a flying start with her stable’s juveniles this season and apprentice Adam Hyeronimus is keen to get in on the act on Wednesday.
Hyeronimus will partner the regally bred The Broken Shore in the Royal Randwick At Gosford Maiden Handicap (1000m).
The Broken Shore is a half sister to champion stallion Redoute’s Choice and makes her debut on the back of a recent 3-1/4-length barrier trial success.
“Since that trial I have ridden her a couple of times and she has been working very well,” Hyeronimus said.
“She’s obviously very well bred. She’s not a big horse but she trialled well and it’s only a 1000 metre race tomorrow. All she has to do is race up to her trial and work and she will be very hard to beat.
“She is very professional and knows what the game is all about.”
Her opponents include You Got The Love, a More Than Ready colt out of Group One winner Lovely Jubly.
Hyeronimus joined the Waterhouse team three weeks ago and has welcomed the opportunity to get on top quality horses.
He has made a strong start having ridden a winner for the trainer at the past two Saturday meetings.
So far this season Waterhouse’s six individual two-year-old winners have been ridden by either Tommy Berry, Hugh Bowman or number one stable rider Nash Rawiller.
“It’s been great going to Gai’s and it’s helped that I’ve kicked off with a couple of winners in the past couple of weeks,” the 21-year-old said.
“It has put a bit of confidence in Gai’s mind to keep putting me on and it’s put confidence in me as a rider which is important.
“I dare say this filly will start favourite tomorrow just by being such a well-bred filly and one that has trialled well and Gai has had no hesitation in putting me on which is great.”
One disappointment for Hyeronimus is an upcoming stint on the sidelines through a careless riding suspension incurred at Rosehill on Saturday when he won aboard the Waterhouse-trained Kinnersley.
The apprentice will be out of action for eight meetings after Saturday’s Canterbury fixture.
“The suspension is disappointing because tomorrow I’ve also got my first ride for Peter Moody and I’ve got one for Peter Snowden on Thursday at Warwick Farm,” Hyeronimus said.
“When you are just starting to kick a goal it is a bit disappointing to have a break. That’s what does stop momentum but hopefully I can pick up straight away when I come back.”
Moody has booked Hyeronimus for Grenada Road in the MyGosford Handicap (2100m).
