Trainer Noel Doyle could be forced to revise plans with Queensland’s leading Magic Millions Guineas hope, Biggles.
Doyle was giving serious consideration to sending Biggles into next month’s $1 million 1400m feature at the Gold Coast without another run following his victory in the Listed Gold Edition Plate (1200m) at Eagle Farm eight days ago.
However, Doyle is concerned the son of Jet Spur is doing too well in his Gold Coast stables and he could be forced to start him in the Group Three Vo Rogue Plate (1350m) at Doomben on Saturday.
“It’s 50-50 but he’s done super since his last start,” Doyle said.
“He never misses a beat and has got a great constitution and eats up everything in sight.
“I was thinking about going straight into the Magic Millions but it will be exactly a month since his last run if I go that way.
“I’ve nominated him for the Vo Rogue and I’m probably leaning to starting him as it’s still a fortnight to the Magic Millions.”
A $160,000 buy, Biggles confirmed his standing as Queensland’s best hope for the Magic Million Guineas after winning the Gold Edition Plate on protest.
The Desleigh Forster-trained Easy Running was first past the post but was relegated to second after stewards upheld an objection from apprentice Tim Bell.
“I don’t think there’s a better performed three-year-old from Queensland than him and I’m sure he’ll give the race a shake,” Doyle said.
Doyle is surprised Biggles is on TAB Sportsbet’s fifth line of betting at $12 alongside Easy Running at $12 with last year’s Magic Millions Classic runner-up Combat Kitty the $5.50 favourite.
“I don’t know why he’s that price as I rate him as Queensland’s best three-year-old,” he said.
“I don’t think there’s any better performed horse than him from here.”
Doyle believes the biggest danger to Biggles in the Magic Millions Guineas could again come from Easy Running.
“If it’s a wet track on Magic Millions day, Easy Running will be right in the race,” he said.
“Easy Rocking horses loves the wet and Easy Running has shown he loves it too.”
The Vo Rogue Plate could see a return clash between Biggles and Easy Running after Forster confirmed her three-year-old would be a definite starter.
Forster agreed with the stewards’ decision to uphold the protest in the Gold Edition Plate but is quietly confident Easy Running can turn the tables if Biggles starts in the Vo Rogue Plate.
