International raider Bauer can land a $100,000 bonus for his connections if he can win Saturday’s Group Three Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Flemington.
The nine-year-old grey was a hard luck story of the Melbourne Cup when he fell short by $900 of making the final field.
He was 25th in order of entry for the Cup.
The VRC has offered a $100,000 bonus for any horse that connections paid the final acceptance fee for the Melbourne Cup but failed to secure a start and wins Saturday’s Queen Elizabeth.
The other eligible horses along with Bauer, a luckless last-start third to Melbourne Cup winner Dunaden in the Geelong Cup (2400m), are Lexus Stakes runner-up Macedonian, Ironstein, Back In Black and Spechenka.
A victory by one of the five would deliver connections the winner’s cheque of $150,000 plus the $100,000 bonus which together equates to the same stake offered for running fourth in the Melbourne Cup.
There are 14 runners in the Queen Elizabeth including Bauer’s stablemate Sahara Sun.
