Blinkers have been confirmed for promising galloper Flight Of Pegasus, irrespective of where he races this week.

Flight To Pegasus, who held his own in a star-studded $1 million Golden Rose field last year, is an acceptor for Canterbury on Wednesday and Wyong on Thursday.

Trainer Scott Aspery will leave a decision on which race the three-year-old will contest until close to the Canterbury scratching deadline.

“Both are winnable races for him but I’m not sure which way to go yet,” Aspery said.

“He’s drawn a wide barrier at Canterbury but he’ll have to carry a bit of weight at Wyong in an easier race.

“Whichever way we go, he’ll have the blinkers on for the first time.

“They should sharpen him up and let him travel closer to the lead.”

Flight Of Pegasus, Group Three-placed as a two-year-old, ran as the rank outsider in the 2011 Golden Rose.

Interference soon after the start cost him dearly but Aspery was delighted Flight Of Pegasus could finish alongside Helmet and Foxwedge – both subsequent Group One winners – as they chased home Manawanui.

Flight Of Pegasus has finished just behind the placegetters in two resuming runs, including the latest in Saturday class when sixth to Havana Rey at Warwick Farm.

“He’s fit, sound and healthy but last time the wet track probably negated his finishing speed,” Aspery said.

“There have been circumstances against him but we need to get some confidence back for both the horse and the connections’ sake.”

Flight Of Pegasus won his first start at Wyong before underlining his potential with a close third to Uate in the Skyline Stakes at Warwick Farm.

There have been six unplaced runs since and Aspery said if Flight Of Pegasus missed a major cheque once more he would send the gelding for a spell.

“I think he gets through soft ground but he hasn’t got the same turn of foot,” Aspery said.

“If he struggles to get near them again on a wet track (this week) I would probably turn him out for the winter.”
