Moonlight Cloud, who almost beat Black Caviar at Royal Ascot, ran out an impressive winner of the Prix Maurice de Gheest for the second successive year.

The Freddie Head-trained filly, who came so close to being the first horse to beat the legendary Black Caviar in the Diamond Jubilee, absolutely hacked up at Deauville.

Settled just off the quarters of The Cheka, who attempted to make all the running for Eve Johnson Houghton in the Group One, Thierry Jarnet made a positive move a furlong and a half (300m) out.

She quickly put around three lengths between herself and the chasing pack and the race was over as a contest.

Wizz Kid made late headway to finish second for Robert Collet and Gerald Mosse.
