Jockey Brett Poulus has been suspended for 18 months after testing positive to banned substances in June.

Poulus was tested at the NSW provincial track Kembla Grange on June 11 and his urine sample was found to contain the banned substances.

He pleaded guilty at an inquiry on Friday and will be out of the saddle until December 27 next year.

Should Poulus undertake satisfactory counselling, Racing NSW stewards told him they would consider reducing the penalty by three months.

Stewards considered the frankness of Poulus’ evidence and his guilty plea when assessing penalty, however it was the jockey’s second offence under the rule.
