Blue Diamond favourite Sepoy has been backed from $1.70 to $1.60 at Sportingbet after a string of big bets were placed on the star colt following Tuesday’s barrier draw.
Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said he had been keen to lay the undefeated favourite but the weight of money meant his price had to be trimmed up.
“We took bets of $20,000, $10,000 and $5000 yesterday and there has been another wave of bets placed on him this morning,†Sullivan said.
â€Over 95% of the money has been for Sepoy since the barrier draw and we can’t find a punter to back any of the other fancied runners at this stage.
“I am keen to take him on at short odds in a Blue Diamond but punters are very confident he will be getting the job done.â€
Sullivan said there had been some money for roughie Running Tall who has shortened from $26 to $17.
“We have had a couple of punters back him to win $10,000 plus some smaller money and he might be a knockout after drawing barrier one,†he said.
“He was beaten 3.5 lengths by Sepoy last start but it was a nice run and he could well be an improver.â€
