The Peter Healey trained Acclaimed Chaos has firmed from $201 to $71 for the VRC Derby after one Sportingbet Australia punter backed him to win over $70,000 following Tuesday’s win in a lowly Benchmark 58 handicap at Echuca.
Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said the Derby would be a fair step up for the son of Umatilla but funnier things had happened in the 3yo stayers race.
“This horse did only win a country Benchmark 58 but he did beat the older horses in doing so,†said Sullivan.
“The likes of Rebel Raider and Redding have won this race at big odds in the past by virtue of being the best stayer and Acclaimed Chaos did show he’s likely to run the trip.â€
Other horses backed at good odds in the run in to the Derby include Jezabeel’s son, Scotland The Brave, with one punter on to win $300,000.
