The big bets have started to come for Black Caviar with Sportingbet Australia taking a bet of $300,000 at $1.25 amongst a series of massive wagers on the unbeaten mare.
Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said punters weren’t in the least bit worried about Black Caviar’s long trip to Royal Ascot and were just as confident of her winning the Diamond Jubilee as they have been in her recent starts in Australia.
“Black Caviar has been backed from $1.30 to $1.20 this week with just as many punters backing her in the UK as they would if the race was in Melbourne,” Sullivan said.
“We have taken a bet of $300,000 plus bets of $20,000, several bets of $10,000 and a mountain between $2000 and $5000.
“Punters just think she is a moral and are happy to back her as they are getting probably double the price they would get if this race was in Australia.”
Sullivan said there hadn’t been any interest in any runner to beat the super mare.
“We are holding over half a million on Black Caviar and less than $250 on all the other horses in the race combined,” he said.
“It is a one horse affair as far as punters are convinced and it just looks a matter of how far she wins by.”
