Leading trainer Chris Waller could rush Tromso back from Brisbane in a bid to claim back-to-back Civic Stakes wins at Rosehill.

Tromso made his only Brisbane winter carnival appearance on Saturday, finishing just behind the Healy Stakes placegetters at Eagle Farm.

The stable’s racing manager Liam Prior said the recent Rosehill winner was a chance to back up in the $100,000 feature on his home track.

“Depending on how he comes through the Healy Stakes run, he could go around in the Civic,” Prior said.

Tromso was last on the turn before running on late when fifth to River Lad in the Group Three sprint.

Before joining Waller’s Brisbane team, Tromso produced a strong finish to beat Hurrara in an 1100-metre sprint at Rosehill in May.

Little Surfer Girl won last year’s Civic Stakes, one of four Waller-trained winners on the day.

The trainer will have a typically strong hand again on Saturday with Wednesday’s Newcastle two-year-old winner Grand Business to be nominated, along with three-year-olds Fast And Sexy and Flying Zero, mares Ingham Magic and First Look and last-start winner Thumbtacks.

Waller completed the main part of the Queensland winter carnival on a mixed note when Red Tracer was fourth in the Group One Tattersall’s Tiara.

As he extended his Sydney premiership lead with Sour Mash’s Warwick Farm victory, he also won an Eagle Farm support race with former New Zealander Firebolt.

It will be left to another ex-Kiwi to round out his winter carnival commitments when Savabeel filly Savannah Dancer contests the $100,000 Listed Sunshine Coast Guineas at Caloundra on Saturday.

“The owners are keen to get some black type against her name so the timing of the race for her is ideal,” Prior said.

Savannah Dancer has raced three times for Waller for placings at Randwick and Warwick Farm.

Although she has just a single dead-heat win from eight starts, her New Zealand formlines are more than promising with links to well-performed three-year-olds such as the VRC Oaks runner-up Dowager Queen.
