Cranbourne trainer Robbie Griffiths has called on apprentice Katelyn Mallyon to revive the fortunes of luckless mare Avionics.
The six-year-old sprinter has threatened to post her seventh career win this campaign and at her last two starts has flashed over the line just behind the placegetters.
“She has drawn barrier one and gets a chance with a three-kilo claim for Katelyn to be amongst the action again,” Griffiths said.
“She has been knocking on the door but hasn’t had a lot of luck so hopefully the breaks come her way on Saturday and she can get one on the board.”
After the claim for Mallyon, Avionics will carry 57kg in the Robert Hunter Handicap (1200m) and is at $8 in an open TAB Sportsbet market.
Last start at Caulfield on December 3 another apprentice, Ashley Thompson, rode Avionics and she was beaten only a half-length when fourth to Our Spirits Bay over 1200 metres after being tardy from the barriers.
She also finished close up two starts ago when a long neck fourth to Let’s Be Happy over 1200 metres at Moonee Valley on November 19.
Mallyon has been in growing demand this season and is 16th on the state’s jockeys’ table with 32 wins.
She is 23rd on the city table with six wins but could easily be higher with 24 minor placings among her 83 city rides, including 15 seconds.
Avionics is one of five engagements for Mallyon at Caulfield.
Her other mounts are Taylor’s Command ($4.80), Agrippa ($4.20), Token Of Honour ($6) and Tough Love ($31).
