The much-hyped sprint duel between I Wish I Win and Giga Kick has hit a roadblock, cooling the feverish anticipation that surrounded the proposed event.
While Wednesday night’s unveiling of the Cranbourne-hosted 1200-meter clash set the racing world abuzz, it seems that enthusiasm isn’t universal.
The reluctance stems from the camp of I Wish I Win, managed by Peter Moody for the New Zealand-based Waikato Stud, dampening hopes of a blockbuster pre-Everest showdown on September 22.
Originally touted to carry a jaw-dropping $750,000 purse—equivalent to a Group 1 prize—the race was positioned as the ultimate prep test before The Everest.
However, reluctance from I Wish I Win’s connections have thrown a spanner in the works.
On the flip side, Giga Kick, trained by Clayton Douglas, showed no such reservations.
Rod Douglas, a key figure in the Giga Kick team, took to social media platform X, exclaiming, “Bring it on,” highlighting the divergent sentiments between the two camps.
