Ethan Brown will be hoping Friday’s success aboard Jimmysstar’s younger brother In’kantosstar proves a sign of things to come when he partners the Group 1 star at Caulfield on Saturday.
In’kantosstar made it two wins from just three starts with a comfortable victory in benchmark 62 company over 1347m at Geelong.
Sent out as the $2.15 favourite, the lightly raced four-year-old gave his supporters few concerns as he powered to a 1.75-length victory.
While Friday’s $35,000 event was a considerable step below the $750,000 Group 1 Memsie Stakes, Brown will now attempt to complete a family double aboard Jimmysstar in the feature at Caulfield.
Jimmysstar heads into the season’s opening Group 1 as one of the leading chances, while Brown believes his younger sibling also has plenty of upside after only three career appearances.
‘’We hit the front a bit soon – he’s a casual horse and I was mindful of that – but when he towed me up the way he did we had no choice but to press the go button and he held them off well,’’ Brown told Racing.com.
‘’He’s a competitor so when he hits the front he thinks ‘job is done’. So, he went to the line in probably second or third gear today but I am sure if he got challenged he would have went again.
‘’He’s going the right way about things.’’
In’kantosstar is by Per Incanto out of the Zed mare Anniesstar, making him a younger brother to Jimmysstar.
He was purchased for $260,000 at the 2024 Sydney Easter Yearling Sale, shortly after Jimmysstar had begun establishing himself as a rising talent in Australia.
