Giga Kick, the reigning Everest champion, is set to bypass the Group 2 Premiere Stakes and head directly to the $20 million The Everest (1200m) at Randwick on October 14.
The decision follows a difficult first-up run in the Group 2 McEwen Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley, a race marred by a controversial ride from jockey Craig Williams.
Williams has since been replaced by James McDonald, who was initially set to return early from a broken foot to ride in the Premiere Stakes (1200m).
The change of plans means Giga Kick will now have a six-week break between runs.
Trainer Clayton Douglas is reportedly planning just one preparatory trial for the horse, most likely in Sydney.
Giga Kick, who remains the $4.50 favourite for The Everest, aims to become the second horse to win back-to-back Everest titles.
