A capacity field has been assembled for the Darwin Cup (2000m) this Monday where the depth looks pretty solid.
Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2025 Darwin Cup.
2025 Darwin Cup Runner Preview:
1. Bear Story: Placed in this race last year but isn’t the same horse he was 12 months ago.
2. Wolfburn: The end of 2000m is the query with him. But, he is the last start Metric Mile winner with a good racing style and will give a stack of cheek. Just the last 200m will be the test.
3. Hadouken: Big, big win in this race last year. He looks spot on to repeat the dose after the Chief Ministers triumph. Maps perfect, B Shinn on, proven performer, hard to beat.
4. Write Your Name: Down the track in the Metric Mile and while I think rising to 2000m suits, I am not sure he is going well enough to threaten.
5. Motorace: Got back and was good late without threatening in the Metric Miles. The rise in trip looks ideal and should be better for the run. Key threat.
6. Picaroon: Hasn’t fired in three runs this part of the world. She’ll struggle.
7. Prince Jofra: Wide throughout in the Chief Ministers and the hard run just told late. Early backing says he’s here to play, run well…knockout hope.
8. Venting: Was wide throughout in the Metric Mile and tired late. Maps much better this time around, but not sure he’s good enough.
9. Holstein: Hasn’t fired a shot in two runs. Making up the numbers.
10. Cacofonix: Liked the way he knuckled down late to win at the track/distance last start. Harder here though…rough first four contender.
11. Awash: I think the stable is the only factor that is allowing him to be as short as he is. I can mark him much longer.
12. Pink Panther: Not racing well enough.
13. He’s Maverick (First Emergency): Good track/distance record, but needs it much easier.
14. Funnyifitwon (Second Emergency): Battling. Pass.
15. Unquestionably (Third Emergency): He’d be my each way bet if he got a start. Spots them a start but should rocket at them late.

Hadouken, Motorace and Wolfburn look the main three speed influences. I think Hadouken will press and maybe hold the front. Bear Story and Venting won’t be far away and should get decent runs in behind the speed.
