All Star Mile: Alligator Blood set to bleed bookies dry

THE second edition of the All-Star Mile takes place at Caulfield this Saturday and Alligator Blood is the $2.70 favourite at TAB following the confirmation of the field and this morning’s barrier draw.

Alligator Blood won both starts at Flemington last month with the narrow C.S. Hayes Stakes win over Catalyst on February 15 followed by the Group 1 triumph in the Australian Guineas on February 29.

Alligator Blood has raced 11 times for 10 wins and a close second to Super Seth in last October’s Caulfield Guineas.

Alligator Blood opened $11 for the All-Star Mile on January 9 but since the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas at Gold Coast on January 11, the David Vandyke-trained gelding has been favourite for the world’s richest mile race.

One TAB punter will be hoping that Alligator Blood is victorious on Saturday after placing a $3,000 wager at $7 on January 15, which would result in a $21,000 collect.

10-time Group 1 winner Melody Belle is currently the $4.50 second elect with Fierce Impact – winner of last spring’s Toorak Handicap and Cantala Stakes – the other galloper in single figures at $9.
