Race 1. (12:05) Midway (Bm72) 1800m
9 Agita (Bet Now: $SP.00) should appreciate getting to 1800m after racing behind Iceman a fortnight back. He too got off speed but was good late without threatening when third. Like him up in distance again and he seems to have struck a winnable race.
8 Highborn Harry (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a stablemate of Agita that steps up to 1800m after racing over 1550m at the midweeks at Canterbury where he just looked in need of the run and was solid, but but never really threatening. Better set up here, he appeals.
2 Claim The Crown (Bet Now: $SP.00) has had two runs at the mile this prep and is racing like 1800m suits. Latest run was behind Iceman two weeks back in the Midway where he attempted to lead throughout and gave a decent kick from the front but just felt the pinch late. I think with a more patient steer, he’ll be more effective.
Race 2. (12:40) Breeders' Plate 1000m
4 I’m Ya Huckleberry (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Home Affairs colt for GaiBott that led throughout to win the opening trial last Monday. He seemed to move very well and when shaken up, he responded and gapped them late, running good time. Looks to land on speed, hard to beat I say.
2 Eviction Notice (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a stablemate of I’m Ya Huckleberry that won his trial in similar fashion. He led throughout, was asked for an effort, and won by a space in decent time. He was pushed right out there vs the stablemate, so that is my concern, but he’s clearly ready to go.
6 Incognito (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Stay Inside colt for Michael Freedman that ran third in his respective trial. It was a blanket finish and he didn’t move too bad to my eye, beaten under a half length. Stable has a fab record with juveniles, watch betting.
Race 3. (13:15) Gimcrack Stakes 1000m
5 Home Invasion (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a well bred daughter of Home Affairs that led throughout to win the second trial last Monday, leading all the way and was strong in the run to the line. Time was nothing to jump up and down about, but she looks above average. Leading chance.
2 Doubella (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Doubtland filly for Michael Freedman that showed decent change up speed when asked to win her respective trial. She won in solid enough time and seemingly did it with something in hand, so watch betting.
8 Oh Yes She Did (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Team Kearney trained filly that won her respective trial and despite the stable not really being known for producing juveniles, this girl moved nicely and let down well when asked. Keen to see how she goes.
Race 4. (13:50) Dulcify Stakes 1600m
1 Without Peer (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a horse with an engine under the hood. He ran third to Sixties two weeks back in the Ming Dynasty, getting a fair way off speed and out of his ground but worked home strongly against the pattern in a good effort in defeat. Like him up in trip and is one of the hardest to beat.
4 Federalist (Bet Now: $SP.00) is getting towards D Day I suggest. He was a bit plain in the Ming Dynasty but he still seems so raw and new to the caper. The talent is there and I do think rising to the mile on the bigger track really helps his cause. Dangerous.
The draw makes it tricky for 6 Ruination (Bet Now: $SP.00) but he is a colt I have time for. Nothing flash about his last start win at Newcastle but he just has something about him and has enormous upside/scope. He’s in the mix if he can overcome the draw.
Race 5. (14:25) Melbourne Storm Mile (Bm94) 1600m
8 Pocketing (Bet Now: $SP.00) is sneaky flying for Team Freedman. He comes through the Bill Ritchie when off speed and worked home quite well late without threatening behind impressive all the way winner With Your Blessing. Like him up to the mile, hard fit, he takes beating.
15 Glad You Think So (Bet Now: $SP.00) has the 1800m run under the belt now, which should hold him in good stead. He ran over that trip at Rosehill three weeks back when just off speed and tried hard but had no anwers late for impressive all the way winner Nkosi. More genuine tempo, he can win.
10 Time Quest (Bet Now: $SP.00) has eyes on The Big Dance and looks on track. He ran behind Shohisha a few weeks back at Randwick and was good late from off the speed, his first run in over a month. He’ll be strong late. Hopefully can settle a pair closer in the run.
Race 6. (15:00) Flight Stakes 1600m
From a price perspective, I want to be with 2 Artistic Venture (Bet Now: $SP.00). She was a few weeks between runs when contesting the Tea Rose and yes, she had the back of Apocalyptic, she kept chasing and was good in defeat. Like her up to the mile, she’ll be strong late…she’s the each way play.
1 Apocalyptic (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the obvious but does seem well found. Just got there to win the Furious first up before going to the Tea Rose when wide throughout but the mid race anchor drop helped her cause and her turn of foot once balanced up was impressive. 1600m seemingly no issue and is hard to beat.
8 Enviable (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a very good filly, I am convinced of that. She was stiff not to be in the finish in the Tea Rose. She looked to be bolting but got badly held up in behind and it ended up being an ugly watch. If the breaks go her way, she can win without shocking me.
Race 7. (15:35) Premiere Stakes 1200m
1 Jimmysstar (Bet Now: $SP.00) is several weeks between runs for Ciaron Maher since resuming in the Concorde where the track pattern was against him but I did like the way he finished his race off in defeat. Freshened up and loved the way he went in a tick over trial last week. He’s here to make a statement I reckon.
6 Private Harry… (Bet Now: $SP.00) he’s not as good as what Kurrinda thinks he is, but he has to be forgiven for The Shorts failure given he was sideways when the gates opened, then copped a check before firing up on speed and was weak late. His best is dangerous against these.
3 Iowna Merc (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Bjorn Baker trained gelding that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since The Archer where he was at the end of a long prep and looking for the paddock behind Lubrication. He can sprint well fresh and his trial work has been strong.
Race 8. (16:10) Epsom Hcp 1600m
4 Autumn Glow (Bet Now: $SP.00), or as I call her, Baby Winx…she picks herself. She has been stunning in two starts/wins this prep, resuming in the Toy Show before going to the Theo Marks three weeks ago where she got better as the race went on to win impressively. Eats up the mile, she is the best horse in Australia IMO, or will be anyway…very keen.
5 Pier… (Bet Now: $SP.00) as much as I love Autumn Glow and think she’ll win this race comfortably, I think this guy is probably just as much of a lock to run top three. His run in defeat behind Autumn Glow was outstanding, closing with real purpose from off speed to run third. Fitter and up in trip, can settle closer…only runs well.
8 El Castello (Bet Now: $SP.00) was fabulous in his return a few weeks back in the Theo Marks. He was first up since the Derby last year at Flemington and I thought he ran out of his skin in defeat behind Autumn Glow. Like him up to 1600m and is a must for exotics.
Race 9. (16:45) The Metropolitan 2400m
16 Flying Bandit (Bet Now: $SP.00) is my throw at the stumps. I have been hot on this horse being a Group l talent for some time and he gets his chance to show it here. He ran last Saturday at Rosehill when back off the slow speed and made up good ground without threatening. He won’t know himself with 50kg on his back, he’ll be strong late and has enormous upside.
7 Birdman… (Bet Now: $SP.00) does he think? I reckon he did in the Kingston Town because he looked as if he was going to win by 2-3 once let down but in the end, he just scraped in over Adelaide River. Looks cherry ripe for this though and rising to 2400m, hard fit, perhaps a more patient steer so he doesn’t hit the front early…hard to beat.
6 Athabascan (Bet Now: $SP.00) is on track I think to run really well. He comes through the Kingston Town where he got back to near last in the run and while he was never threatening, he was solid late in the piece from the back behind Birdman. Gets down in the weights, love him up to 2400m, he can threaten at odds.
Race 10. (17:25) Brisbane Broncos Sprint (Bm94) 1200m
5 Disneck (Bet Now: $SP.00) is knocking on the door for Bjorn Baker. It was an ugly watch two back at Rosehill before racing here a fortnight back where he was held up at times but did get clear when asked and seemed to have his chance when a close up third to Husk. If the breaks go his way, he can threaten.
9 Getafix (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the interesting runner. You’d assume that he is first up here into the Silver Eagle to try and get his way into the Golden Eagle. He really came of age towards the end of last prep. Whether it was J Mac on to improve him out of sight, not sure, but he is a talent and has trialled very well.
13 World Alliance (Bet Now: $SP.00) is knocking on the door for Matty Smith. He ran behind Fire Star three weeks back at Rosehill when off speed and was held up at times before getting clear and was good late in the piece when fourth to the Snowden horse. His best is good enough to take this out.
