26/6/2021 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Rosehill, Civic Stakes day

A strong nine race card has been assembled for Rosehill (transferred from Randwick) this Saturday for Civic Stakes Day. The weather is fine, the track is soft (7) and the rail is out six metres for the entire circuit.

Back Me

I’m keen on 9 Imposing Beau (Bet Now: $4.60 TOP ODDS) in the opener for Team Hawkes. Has had three career outings and could make a case to say he should be unbeaten. Won on debut at Hawkesbury before being have zero luck on the Kenso track. He then went to Newcastle and in the end, it was the bob of the head that cost him. That Newcastle race, relative to the day, smashed the clock, so I think in an even race, he’ll prove hard to beat.

Danger

8 Zorocat (Bet Now: $8.00 TOP ODDS) has the Saturday metro form, which should hold her in good stead here. Attempted to lead throughout at Randwick last time out and to her credit, she gave a really good kick from the front. Just couldn’t quite finish it off when a close up third to Nicci’s Fling. That form looks quite strong for this.

Long Shot

5 Key (Bet Now: $7.00 TOP ODDS) can be a big improver here I feel. Aussie debut came in the Denise’s Joy when good late behind Ballistic Lover. Then raced at Rosehill again when ridden a bit warm and failing to fire. Think with a soft run in transit off the speed, third up, she can bounce back.

Race 2. (12:10) Tab Highway Hcp (c2) 1400m

16 Foxie La Belle (Bet Now: $17.00 TOP ODDS) is my smokey of the day across Australia. Reckon she was really good in defeat two back in a Highway at Rosehill behind Distillate. Then went to Nowra where she was caught wide no cover and it was a meeting where nearer the inside was absolute gold, so forget she went around. Off the Highway run, she’s right in this at a price.

Danger

3 The Drover (Bet Now: $6.00 TOP ODDS) is racing really well at the moment for Roy McCabe. Spanked them two back at Wellington before going to a Highway at Randwick two weeks ago where he got a fair way back in the run but worked home strongly when second to impressive winner Casino Kid. If he can sit closer in the run, he’ll take beating.

Long Shot

Early market push says that 7 Packer’s Bond (Bet Now: $6.50 TOP ODDS) is here to run well for Mitch Beer. The key to him might well be wet tracks because his best figures have come on wet ground. Good late fresh at Wagga, charging late and just missing out on the win. Like him up to 1400m and will be strong late.

Race 3. (12:45) Stayers Cup 3200m

Back Me

1 Sweet Thomas (Bet Now: $3.00 TOP ODDS) was an impressive winner of this race last year and 12 months on, I think he is going better. Far from disgraced in the Winter Cup before backing up a week later in the Brisbane Cup where he was quite good late against the race shape when third to Knights Order. Hard to beat here.

Danger

4 Kaapfever (Bet Now: $2.45 TOP ODDS) is yet to run at two miles but I reckon he is racing like he won’t say no to it. Ran at Warwick Farm last Monday and worked to the line with real purpose late when a narrow second to Brown Thomas, just missing. He’s racing very well and he does like racing at Randwick.

Long Shot

5 Feel The Rush (Bet Now: $5.50 TOP ODDS) is down in the weights and has the Maher/Eustace polish so she does get some level of respect despite a plain effort at Randwick last time out. But to be fair, she did go keen in the run and was a tired horse on the turn. She’s a first four threat.

Race 4. (13:20) Barry Cook (bm78) 1800m

Back Me

4 Zing (Bet Now: $1.95 TOP ODDS) is a little query at 1800m but is racing well for Chris Waller. She ran in the Seentoomany race from a fortnight ago at Randwick. Was wide with cover and presented to win. Just couldn’t quite finish the race off when second. She’s ready to win. Just needs to see out the trip.

Danger

Tim Clark aboard 1 So Wicked (Bet Now: $4.80 TOP ODDS) tells me they will be positive from the outset. J Mac took cover with her last time out on the Kenso track, against her pattern, but she was still good. If she leads and gets control, despite being hit and miss previously, she’ll be hard to get past.

Long Shot

3 Savigne (Bet Now: $14.00 TOP ODDS) has had a couple of runs at the mile and is racing like the 1800m will be ideal. Latest run came a fortnight back at Randwick and I thought she worked to the line pretty well behind Seentoomany. Getting towards peak fitness and won’t mind some give in the track.

Race 5. (13:55) Garry Burgess (bm72) 1600m

Confident that 12 Meg (Bet Now: $9.00) can measure up to Saturday grade. Was placed at Saturday level when she raced in NZ. Now with Matty Dale, second run for the camp saw her spank a Class One/Maiden field at Wagga where she was heavily backed and duly saluted. Hard to beat in a race like this.

Danger

6 Cadenabbia (Bet Now: $7.00) gets a senior jock back on and that is a big tick for this three year old. Ran over 1400m at Warwick Farm last time out when just off the speed and young Schiller just couldn’t get a proper chance to build the revs when fourth to Kibosh. Tim Clark takes over and he’ll take no BS aboard this guy.

Long Shot

10 Buba (Bet Now: $20.00) has more upside than most and is starting to find positive form. Just looked in need of the run fresh behind Zegalo. Then went to the mile at Randwick and wasn’t too bad I thought in defeat behind Seentoomany, closing off okay late in the piece. Can settle closer in the run if need be and is suited here I feel.

I reckon this is lovely placement by Joe Pride with 8 Threeood (Bet Now: $6.00). This mare resumed three weeks ago in the Helen Coughlan when back in the run and closing off strongly when a close up third to Exhilarates. Tick over trial was a lovely piece of work and looks well suited in a race like this.

Danger

3 Bandersnatch (Bet Now: $4.50) looks ready to win. Team Hawkes trained gelding that loomed as some of threat when racing at Randwick a few weeks ago but just couldn’t quite finish it off behind Lina’s Hero. I reckon hard fit and up to 1400m are two big ticks and third up, should be ready to go.

Long Shot

10 True Detective (Bet Now: $7.50) is another that should be suited up to 1400m again. Sat on speed when racing over 1300m at Randwick a fortnight ago and was honest as always, far from disgraced in defeat behind New Arrangement. Up in trip, and perhaps with a more conservative steer, he’ll be more effective.

Race 7. (15:10) Keith Free Oam (bm88) 1800m

It’s been an unusual prep for 4 Brutality (Bet Now: $9.50) but he is racing well for Joe Pride and is nearing a win. This will be the third Saturday in a row he has raced, so he won’t be lacking fitness. Ran in the McKell Cup last Saturday and worked to the line from the back okay in a brutally run race won by Stockman. If this becomes survival of the fittest, he’ll win that battle.

Danger

5 Mubariz (Bet Now: $7.50) is winning, he’s progressive and heading in the right direction for Chris Waller. Could he be a sneaky blacktype contender in a few weeks time. Yet to prove himself beyond 1900m but is racing super at the moment over 1800m, his last two starts resulting in wins over 1800m at Rosehill and each time he has been very strong late. Off that, he should be fine here and is hard to beat.

Long Shot

7 Gone Bye (Bet Now: $20.00) loves it when he gets a soft time of it near the speed and the set up is here for him to have that, whether it be leading or sitting on the back of Toryjoy. Has just looked in need of the two runs back from a spell. Hard fit now, he can run a bold race at a price.

Race 8. (15:50) Acy Securities (bm78) 1400m

2 Canasta (Bet Now: $3.80) is bursting to win a race and he gets his chance here. Has finished runner up in both runs back from a spell, the latest coming two weeks ago at Randwick when worn down late by Cisco Bay. Third up now, hard fit and overall, his third up record does read quite well.

Danger

5 Ulysses (Bet Now: $4.00) looks to be in for a good prep. Resumed over 1200m at Randwick a fortnight back, a trip clearly short of his best, and he paraded like he would improve with the run. That said, gee I thought he closed off nicely and was a definite pass mark behind Gravina. Like him at 1400m and has a fab second up record.

Long Shot

15 Bluff ‘N’ Bluster (Bet Now: $11.00) is a Jason Coyle trained four year old who looks to have returned well. Resumed over 1200m at Randwick two weeks back when back in the small field and while he was never really a winning threat, he wasn’t beaten far by Gravina. That form reads well and is suited up in trip.

Race 9. (16:30) Warren Woodcock (bm78) 1100m

Back Me

6 Hulk (Bet Now: $3.20) is bursting to win this time in and I think he gets his chance here. Ran over 1000m at Randwick two weeks ago where I thought Avdulla rode a peach race on him. Problem was the eventual winner Malkovich had a picnic in front and is very hard to get past when that happens. Hulk tried hard, but couldn’t reel him in. He’s flying and the extra 100m off a more genuine tempo should help his cause.

Danger

10 Triple Ace (Bet Now: $6.50) is a talented animal for Kris Lees that resumes and returns to racing as a gelding. Hasn’t raced since January 9 over 1100m when a narrow second to the well performed Malkovich, so the form is easy to tie in. Been gelded, trialled well and should get run of the race stuff from the draw.

Long Shot

4 Snowzone (Bet Now: $19.00) is one that I think can easily bounce back. Was keen on him last time out at Rosehill but I thought Louise Day rode him far too warm near the speed and left the horse with nothing in the tank for the straight. The resumption was quite good so giving him another look.
