A three-year-old full sister to champion mare Verry Elleegant (NZ) made her debut on Friday night at Southside Cranbourne.
Trained by Chris Waller, Verry Stella (NZ) lined-up in Race 2, a 1300m maiden where she settled near the tail of the field and made steady ground late and looked to show glimpses of ability despite being beaten near on 10L.
Verry Stella shares the same trainer as her late sister and was bred by the late Don Goodwin. She will carry the familiar silks — red with a royal blue band and armbands, matching band on the cap and a pom-pom.
Champion mare Verry Elleegant, who died in February last year, is remembered as one of Australia’s all-time greats.
The 2020–21 Australian Horse of the Year compiled 16 career wins, including 11 at Group 1 level, and amassed $14.8 million in prizemoney. Her glittering résumé features a dominant victory in the Caulfield Cup in 2021 before conquering the Melbourne Cup the following year.
