Schwarz retired to stand at stud

Group 1-winning sprinter Schwarz has officially been retired, with trainers John O’Shea and Tom Charlton confirming that the talented colt has run his final race.

Bought for $1.25 million at the 2022 Gold Coast Magic Millions Sale, the son of Zoustar will begin a new chapter as a stallion at Rosemont Stud, where he will stand for the 2025 breeding season.

Schwarz made a strong impression during his racing career, especially at The Valley, where he claimed two of his most notable wins β€” the Group 1 William Reid Stakes and the Group 2 Australia Stakes earlier this year.

His list of feature wins also includes the Group 2 Missile Stakes at Randwick, the Group 3 Hawkesbury Guineas, and the Listed Springtime Stakes at Flemington during the 2023 Melbourne Cup Carnival.

Schwarz had his final start in last Saturday’s Group 1 Doomben 10,000, finishing a respectable fifth, just over two lengths behind Sunshine In Paris.
