Lady Shenandoah draws the carpark in the Manikato Stakes

Lady Shenandoah will make her Melbourne debut under the spotlight of the Group 1 Manikato Stakes, but the Sydney mare’s introduction comes with a hurdle after drawing the widest gate. The Chris Waller-trained star will jump from barrier 10 in the $2 million Moonee Valley feature on Friday night as she searches for a fourth elite-level success.

A winner of five of her eight career starts, Lady Shenandoah heads south for the first time as part of her preparation towards the $20 million The Everest at Randwick on October 18. The wide draw has done little to dent her standing in markets, with the mare rated a firm $2.10 favourite.

Her main rival appears to be last-start Group 1 Moir Stakes victor Baraqiel, who drew barrier seven and sits on the second line of betting at $5. Baraqiel’s Valley triumph has also put him firmly in the frame for a potential Everest slot.
