Last months Brierly Steeplechase winning jockey Darryl Horner Jnr has been suspended for one month after pleading guilty on two banned substance charges.
Horner had been guilty of testing positive to an unnamed banned substance on the Wednesday and Thursday of the three-day Warrnambool May carnival.
The stewards report read:
Stewards today concluded their inquiries into urine samples provided by licensed Jumps/Highweight Rider Mr Darryl Horner Jnr at Warrnambool on Wednesday 5 May 2021 and Thursday 6 May 2021. Evidence today was taken from D Horner who was assisted by Mr M Hyland, Chief Executive Officer VJA.
Mr Horner pleaded guilty to two charges under AR 139 (1) (a) in that:
Charge 1
At the Warrnambool Racing Clubs meeting on Wednesday 5 May 2021, he provided a sample of his urine which found upon analysis to contain a banned substance under AR 136 (1).
Charge 2
At the Warrnambool Racing Clubs meeting on Thursday 6 May 2021, he provided a sample of his urine which found upon analysis to contain a banned substance under AR 136 (1).
Penalty.
Charge 1 D Horners licence to ride was suspended for a period of 1 month.
Charge 2 D Horners licence to ride was suspended for a period of 1 month.
Stewards said they arrived at the penalties after taking in account Horner’s guilty plea, the fact that it was his first offences under this rule and due also to his forthright evidence.
Stewards ruled that Horner’s penalty begin from May 18 so he will be permitted to ride again on June 19 provided he gives a sample clear of any banned substances.
