Serious concerns surround the well-being of jockey Emily Pomfrett following an incident at Gatton on Thursday afternoon.
The race meeting at the track, located outside Brisbane, was abruptly halted as paramedics raced to the scene to airlift Pomfrett after her horse, Wanta Willow, flipped on top of her just before the fifth race.
Queensland Jockeys Association boss Glen Prentice provided an update on Pomfrett’s condition.
“The ambulance sedated her at the track before airlifting to PA Hospital with suspected sternum, lung and brain injuries, but too early to tell any more,” he said.
“She was unconscious for a lengthy period and will be assessed on the flight and once at the PA.
“Her partner and father are en route to PA.”
Pomfrett, a young mother who started her racing career last year, is currently in a critical but stable condition in the intensive care unit at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane.
