Horse shot dead and thrown on bonfire: Chynna Marston and partner found guilty

Chynna Marston, a former jockey and previously associated with Sky Racing, has witnessed her professional journey crumble as Racing NSW Stewards passed a damning verdict, declaring her guilty of numerous infringements concerning animal welfare.

The verdict released on Wednesday, as Racing NSW unveiled the outcome of their extensive investigation into allegations of Marston and her partner Alex Keanโ€™s ill-treatment of thoroughbred racehorses.

Among the profoundly disturbing charges laid bare, the most unsettling is the revelation that Kean shot dead a horse in a โ€œpaddock accident.โ€ Shockingly, the remains of the horse were disposed of through incineration in a bonfire.

Stewards highlighted that Kean acted without consulting a qualified veterinary surgeon and, equally concerning, failed to inform Racing NSW about the incident.

Both individuals were deemed guilty of every allegation brought against them. The sentencing phase is now pending, with the exact date of the pronouncement yet to be decided.

The chance for Marston and Kean to provide a defense arrived when the hearing was scheduled at Racing NSW headquarters on Tuesday. However, they opted to abstain from attending the proceedings and even refrained from responding to the repeated attempts by Stewards to contact them regarding their conspicuous absence that morning.
