Lindsay Park continued its rich history in the Tasmanian Oaks when the Victorian operation produced Cinch to win Friday nightâs $150,000 Listed event at Launceston.
The Ben, Will and JD Hayes-trained daughter of Dundeel stepped up from a 2-1/2-length 1732-metre Sale maiden win on February 2 to score an even more dominant win in the 2100m contest.
It was the first Tasmanian Oaks success for Will and JD Hayes, but Ben teamed with Tom Dabernig to score with Chequerboard in 2021, which followed David Hayes winning three of the seven editions between 2007 and 2013.
Anthony Darmanin celebrated his first Tasmanian Oaks success aboard Cinch and was happy to fill in for Daniel Stackhouse, who rode Cinch to victory at Sale but elected to ride at Moonee Valley, where he rode a winning a double including the Listed Torney Cup aboard Deakin.
âShout out to the boys, Ben, Will and JD, for giving me the opportunity tonight, âStackyâ was going to come, but he didnât come, and Iâm happy to get a nice winner for them,â he said.
Cinch, the $3 favourite, strolled home by three lengths from Moorlands Miss ($10), who held out the Liam Howley-trained, Alana Kelly-ridden Luvya Mumma ($15) for second placing.
Darmanin was positive early aboard Cinch and was confident a long way from home.
âAlana had it pretty soft in front and I was cantering, it felt like I was doing two laps of the big sand, she was just so relaxed and so nice,â Darmanin said.
âShe got too relaxed at one stage, so I just gave her a slap on the shoulder to keep her mind her on the job and once I asked her to go she said, âsee you laterâ.â
Cinchâs win was the second Black Type success for her dam Eye For Fun, whose first foal was 2014 Golden Slipper winner Mossfun.
