Manawanui draws eight in Derby

Pre-post favourite Manawanui has drawn well in barrier eight for his acid staying test in Saturday’s Group One Victoria Derby at Flemington.

A bumper field of 16 plus two emergencies was declared on Wednesday for the $1.5 million 2500m Classic.

Darley’s Induna, promoted to the second line of betting following his impressive Geelong Classic win, drew 12 while Norman Robinson Stakes winner Sabrage will have to overcome barrier 16.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained Niagara, an unlucky third to Sabrage, also faces a task from the outside gate.

Bart Cummings, who has won the Derby five times, will be represented by Rapidus who drew 14.
