Another yearling sells for seven figures

Another seven-figure yearling has passed through the ring early on day two of the Australian Easter Yearling Sale in Sydney.

Following on from a day on which the half-brother to Black Caviar fetched an Australian record of $5 million, a filly by sire-of-the-moment Fastnet Rock sold for $1.55 million.

The filly offered by Kia-Ora Stud is from a strong American family.

She became the fifth yearling at the sale to be sold for more than $1 million.

Bloodstock agent James Bester bought the filly for Robert McClure of Morning Rise Stud on Victoriaโ€™s Mornington Peninsula.

Bester said he judged the filly to be the best in the sale and the most likely to be a Golden Slipper contender.

Among the other higher-priced early lots were a half-brother to Pago Pago Stakes winner Bright Expectations by Shamardal who fetched $410,000 and a colt by More Than Ready from the multiple stakes-winning mare Mimi Lebrock who brought $360,000.
