There has been the significant firmer in betting to take out the G1 Victoria Derby (2500m) this Saturday at Flemington, with some nice size each way bets rolling in.
The Godolphin three year old Astoria comes through the Geelong Classic where he got a mile back but worked home with real purpose late in the piece to run a close up third to Weather With You ($7.50-$7) and Ocean’s Fourteen ($14-$13). He opened $15 Final Field and has firmed at every call, now into $9.
Favourite for the race is the Spring Champion winner Ace High. He was $7 on Sunday prior to Royal Symphony and Cliff’s Edge pulling out. Opened $5 Final Field and touched $4.60 before easing to $5.50.
The significant drifter early has been Main Stage. He opened the $4.80 Final Field favourite but is now out to $6.50.
