Punters have not hesitated in recent weeks to take the short odds about Black Caviar and Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan has reported many of those punters have reinvested on glamour Sydney mare More Joyous in Saturday’s Queen of the Turf Stakes.
Sullivan said plenty of punters had stuck with Black Caviar during her unbeaten streak of eleven wins and they were happy to take the $1.28 on offer for More Joyous.
“We held well over $1.5m on Black Caviar last week in the William Reid and after her unbeaten run, punters have a renewed confidence in taking the short odds,†Sullivan said.
“We have already taken bets of $30,000, $15,000 and $10,000 on More Joyous and I am sure that is just the start of what will be another huge hold.
“We have done a fortune on both Black Caviar and More Joyous so far this Autumn so we have no real choice but to keep taking them on.â€
Sullivan said there hadn’t been any interest in any other runner to win the Queen of the Turf.
“Despite the quality of the field with the likes of Melito, Jersey Lily and Set for Fame, we haven’t seen a bean for any runner to beat More Joyous,†he said.
“Not many punters have been betting against these quality mares at weight for age and those who have, haven’t had a lot of luck, so I really think More Joyous will be the only horse punters will come for.â€
