Merchant Navy could only manage a minor placing first up this preparation in the Group 2 Rubiton Stakes but bookies are still keeping him very safe in the market for Saturday’s Group 1 Newmarket Handicap where he is the $4.80 favourite.
Brave Smash who won the Futurity Stakes last start and bookies think the step back in distance won’t be an issue and have opened him at $6.50 ahead of Rich Charm and Lightning Stakes winner Redkirk Warrior who are both at $7.00.
