Devonport Cup 2026 – Tips, Field, Odds, Horses and Betting Preview

The feature race at Devonport Synthetic this Wednesday is the Devonport Cup (1880m), where the field looks pretty strong for the 2026 edition.

Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2026 Devonport Cup.

2026 Devonport Cup Runner Preview:

1. Sushi Express: Went so close in this race last year. Strong last start winner of the key lead up, he loves the track, can press forward… he commands respect.

2. Vega Magnifico: Strong on-speed winner of the Bordertown Cup last start. Interesting placement here. Given Neil Dyer trains… is this to see if he handles Synthetic, maybe with a long-term view towards Alice Springs/Darwin? Either way, he’s in the mix.

3. Asva: Caught the eye behind Sushi Express before a dominant win in the Brighton Cup. He’ll run well here I am sure, but I reckon he has eyes on the Hobart/Launceston Cups.

4. Kaliuwaa Falls: Won this race two years ago, runner-up last year. Sneaky flying this horse, taking on the big boys in the Conquering and The Inevitable. He’s primed to run well here.

5. General Assembly: Traditionally loves the track but he’s not going well enough.

6. Blonde Star: She was the clear flashing-light run in the lead up won by Sushi Express, working home with real purpose. The gate is tricky but with a drag into the race, she’s dangerous.

7. Ashy Boy: He was just okay in the lead up won by Sushi Express. He then went to the Brighton Cup, settled handy but went backwards from the 800m. He does get serious weight relief this time around, he likes the track, he’s hard fit now… I think he’s worth a throw at the stumps.

8. Earendel: I think the Froggy tax is applied here in the price. Nice horse, loves the track, clearly been set for the race… but I will say I thought he had every chance in the lead up behind Sushi Express. I can’t have him favourite.

9. Ashfall: Contested both the Conquering and The Inevitable. Has eyes on Hobart/Launceston Cups.

10. Original Glaze: Tough on-speed winner last time but this looks much harder. Not for me.

11. Spring Bean: He wasn’t too bad behind Sushi Express two back before a placing in the Longford Cup. Can’t see him threatening.

12. The Longest Yard: He ran second to Sushi Express. Tried hard from just off speed but couldn’t quite get there. He has a kind map and will be strong late. He can win… but gee he seems short enough.

13. Zulu Angel: Down the track in the Brighton Cup and for mine, not going well enough to threaten.

14. Garcon D’Espoir: Not good enough to trouble these.

15. Chicane (First Emergency): Track specialist who I think will win the last race vs here. If he runs here, outclassed. If he runs in the last, he wins.

Sushi Express and Original Glaze look your main speed players, with Earendel and General Assembly a chance of being involved early as well, generating a solid tempo. Ashy Boy, now hard fit, could also press forward from a tricky gate.
