Graceful Anna wins 3yo Magic Millions

Graceful Anna has given young Warwick Farm trainer David Pfieffer a payday to remember with a tenacious win the $1 million Magic Millions 3YO Trophy (1400m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

After being forced to sit outside the leader, Graceful Anna shot to the lead soon after straightening after held off late challenges to claim the feature race.

Jockey Peter Robl, who won the Group I Rosehill Guineas almost two years ago, claimed his first $1 million prize on the lion-hearted filly.

“She’s got the will to win and win she does,” Robl declared as he returned to scale.

Graceful Anna cost $25,000 at last year’s Magic Millions sales and Saturday’s victory was a dream result for Pfieffer.

“[It’s great] for a young bloke like me trying to get going. I’m on top of the world,” he said.

Graceful Anna led in a Sydney trifecta with the Anthony Cummings-trained Tallow finishing second and the well-backed favourite Love Conquers All taking third.

The Bart Cummings-trained Latin News completed a Sydney clean-sweep of the major placings by finishing fourth.
Placings and margins: Graceful Anna (P Robl) 55.5kg ($6) defeated Tallow (C Brown) 54kg ($18) by a long neck with a nose back to Love Conquers All (D Beadman) 56.5kg ($3.30fav) in a length away in third place.

Winner’s breeding – Graceful Anna is a three-year-old filly by Canny Lad out of Lamellar (Grand Lodge (USA)).
