2 Black Run (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is in a purple patch for Team Archibald and has to be one of the hardest to beat. He has won two on the bounce, lifted over the line by Marquand two back at Randwick before getting a sweet steer by Houston here two weeks ago, finishing best to score. Good racing style, tough, in form, rates highly.

Danger

4 Ziryab (Bet Now:  $SP.00) ran down the track behind Al Duca on Oaks Day. He got into a decent spot on speed and tried hard but couldn’t quite get there and just felt the pinch late behind the Freedman galloper. Getting towards peak fitness, good racing style, he can bounce back.

Long Shot

1 Taramansour (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has been kept on ice since the Bendigo Cup when back, wide with cover, and was never really a factor behind Sayedaty Sadaty. Tick over jumpout was solid and he does have a class edge on his side vs this lot, plus gets in well after the claim.

3 Stretan Ruler (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is bred to be a good one and off the jumpout work, I think he is good. Phillip Stokes trains this colt, who has won both jumpouts in readiness for the debut and each time has impressed. He looks a good horse and confident he can make a winning debut.

Danger

1 Alibaba (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a son of Alabama Express that debuts for Team Keys. He has won both jumpouts in readiness for start one and each time has been impressive, the latest coming here on the Heath track. Looks a good mover, keen to see how he goes.

Long Shot

10 Morning Whisper (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a well bred filly for Ciaron Maher that debuts off the back of a jumpout win last week at Cranbourne where she ran solid enough time and to my eye moved very nicely with something in hand. Stable can get a nice juvenile ready for a Stakes race, so I’d respect the market moves, one way or the other.

1 Skipper’s Canyon (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks a good prospect for Phillip Stokes. Big win from him two weeks ago here when resuming, giving them a start and a beating in an electric return. He’s destined for better races I think and this may well be another stepping stone.

Danger

15 Full Hao (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has been kept on ice for Chris Waller since a placing on Oaks Day at Flemington when wide throughout and was one of the first off the bit but she kept chasing and was pretty good in defeat I thought. Rising to 1800m suits and she strikes a winnable race.

Long Shot

10 Sigirya Rock (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a key chance. He looked the winner when presented a fortnight back here but just couldn’t quite see it through, nabbed on the peg by Skipper’s Canyon. Extra 100m should be fine, he’s one of the leading contenders.

Race 4. (14:00) Blue Sapphire Stakes 1200m

5 Naifah (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is hard to beat if she handles 1200m. She ran over 1100m on Oaks Day in the Red Roses when on speed throughout and tried hard but just felt the pinch late and did bump into a rocket in Point Barrow. Good racing style, hard fit…she appeals for me.

Danger

9 Motorsports (Bet Now:  $SP.00) commands respect for Team McEvoy. She won her maiden at Pakenham last time when off speed and although she wasn’t 100% happy on the heavy track, class got her home and was too good. Keen to see how she goes here.

Long Shot

2 Regeneration (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes straight to metro level after a maiden win at Geelong when leading throughout and he gave nothing else a look in to win convincingly. Good racing style for this track and was only second up last start so he has room for upside/improvement.

Race 5. (14:35) Melbourne Classic 2000m

Back Me

1 Different Gravy (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks the most obvious given how arrogant he was over 1800m on Cup Day at Flemington, giving them a start and a beating in an electric performance. Extra 200m is fine and he just needs to handle Caulfield to be taking dare of these.

Danger

2 Kaleo (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is racing as if 2000m will be fine. He ran fourth to Sheza Alibi in the Sandown Guineas, sitting off the muddling tempo and while he lacked the change up speed, he stayed on and was far from disgraced in defeat. Like him up to 2000m and commands respect.

Long Shot

3 Call Da Vinci (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is getting towards peak fitness and I do suspect that a rise to 2000m will suit. He comes through the Sandown Guineas from two weeks back. He got back to near last in the run and while he was never a winning threat, he did make up ground and was pretty good in defeat I thought. The rise in trip is fine and his best is good enough.

1 Kujenga (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should prove hard to beat after her second in the Thoroughbred Club. She was off speed and trucking before being held up. Got clear and worked home well when second to Inkaruna. Hard to beat if the breaks go her way.

Danger

3 Hey Jessie (Bet Now:  $SP.00) was thrown in the deep end in the Thoroughbred Club two weeks ago over 1200m here. She got back to near last in the run and made up minor headway but was never really threatening behind Inkaruna. Fitter, 1400m, she can run an improved race.

Long Shot

6 Sketch (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes back to 1400m after a maiden win over the mile on the Heath track. She got into a decent spot just off the speed before being presented and credit to her, she was there to be beaten but she found and was too good. She’ll be strong late and overall, this isn’t a deep contest.

5 Poison Chalice (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks hard to beat stepping up to 1800m after racing over the mile on Oaks Day when off speed and kept chasing in a good effort in defeat behind Apulia. The rise to 1800m is ideal, has good upside and form around him reads well.

Danger

3 Detonator Jack (Bet Now:  $SP.00) was given an all time ride by Brown on Oaks Day at Flemington and was hailed as the winner, only getting nabbed late by Apulia. Hard fit now and he strikes a winnable race.

Long Shot

10 Ocean Beyond (Bet Now:  $SP.00) didn’t really have the race run to suit last start in the Dunkeld Cup but he was far from disgraced in defeat. He is a sneaky good horse when right and the race has been hit hard by scratchings. First four threat.

10 Berkshire Breeze (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is in the mix for Ciaron Maher. He ran in the Moonee Valley Cup where he tried to make a sustained run from off speed but just couldn’t quite finish the job when fourth to impressive winner Onesmoothoperator. Tick over jumpout win was strong, he appeals.

Danger

1 Light Infantry Man (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the class runner of the field and I’ll bank on that class getting him home. He was far from disgraced in the Champions Stakes when off speed after missing the start and while he was never a winning threat, he kept chasing and was far from disgraced in defeat. If the 2400m is fine, then he is clearly the one to beat.

Long Shot

13 Alalcance (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should be better for the resumption in the Matriarch when near the speed throughout and was there to threaten but first up on the bog, condition just blew out late. Better for the run, 2400m, good racing style, she’s in the mix.

6 Boston Rocks (Bet Now:  $SP.00) was a super winner of the Village Stakes two weeks ago. He got into a decent spot near the speed, chasing, and was there to be beaten I thought from something in behind but gee he was strong to the line. Hard to beat off that effort.

Danger

5 Aviatress (Bet Now:  $SP.00) resumed with a second in the How Now two weeks back. She got back off speed and was held up at times before eventually getting clear and worked home strongly, just missing out on the win when beaten a lip by Proved. She’ll be strong late. Just a matter of where she gets to in the run.

Long Shot

3 Marble Nine (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a beauty for the Corstens/Larkin camp that resumes, having not raced since Aug 2 when attempting to lead throughout in the Aurie’s Star and gave a good sight but had no answers late for King Of Roseau. Jumped out well, good racing style, he is in the mix.

Race 10. (17:40) Testa Rossa Stakes 1400m

Back Me

13 Persian Spirit (Bet Now:  $SP.00) gave them a start and an absolute beating in the last on Cup Day. The manner in which he put them away from off speed was just oh so impressive and he ran really good time for the day. Destined for better races, he’s hard to beat here.

Danger

14 Big Swinger (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has to be respected. He resumed down the straight on Stakes Day and while he was never comfortable on the going, he stayed on and was far from disgraced when third to Need Some Luck. Fitter, 1400m, upside, he appeals.

Long Shot

2 Royal Insignia (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a good horse, I am convinced of that, but it has been odd placement by the stable. He ran in the Rising Fast on Derby Day where he got back to near last in the run and made up some ground without threatening. His talent sees him go close so keen to see him.
