Sandown Hillside will conduct a nine event program on Saturday for Carlyon Stakes Day. The weather forecast is for showers, the track is heavy (8) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

5 Commit (Bet Now: $3.90) just missed two weeks ago at Caulfield Heath, driving hard from just off the speed but found one better in Stakes. Think the rise to 1400m will suit, as will getting to a bigger track. Leading contender.

6 Vallice (Bet Now: $2.35) will love getting to 1400m. He resumed over 1200m at Caufield Heath, getting back to near last, but worked home with real purpose. Good upside to come, settle closer in the run, he’s one of the hardest to beat.

3 Milsons Point (Bet Now: $9.00) is a handy galloper that resumed at Caulfield a few weeks ago, sitting off speed and was keen, failing to fire late. His best is clearly good enough and this isn’t a deep contest so I say he’s in the mix.

5 Cruiserweight (Bet Now:  $SP.00) isn’t Mr Brightside 2.0, but he has talent, enough to take care of a 74. Just got too keen in the run at Caulfield last time and felt the pinch late behind Lauberhorn. Tick over jumpout was strong and I think the key to him is riding with a sit, a bunny to chase. Keen.

4 Buccleuch (Bet Now: $4.20) is a Patrick Payne trained galloper that resumes. He looked a promising horse once upon a time but the wheels fell off last prep. Given a good break, trialled very well, he’s a market watch.

13 I Am Velvet (Bet Now: $9.50) comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since July 18 when down the track in the Winter Challenge at Rosehill. Tick over jumpout was strong and back to 74 grade, she’s a threat for sure.

6 Nearco Frod (Bet Now: $2.40) is humming for Team McEvoy. He was an impressive winner three weeks ago at Flemington, sitting on speed and found plenty when challenged, drawing clear late to score. Good test here but confident he can measure up.

9 Think Giant (Bet Now: $4.00) commands respect for Price/Kent. He ran a few weeks back at Flemington, getting into a decent spot off speed and kept chasing but seemingly had his chance behind Saint George. He has that 2000m run under the belt, which holds him in good stead.

5 Go Daddy (Bet Now: $14.00) comes here with fresh legs after racing over 2400m in the Stayers Cup at Rosehill back in June when plain, not firing a shot, behind King Pedro. Back to Melbourne, fresh legs…doubt he wins but can run first four.

5 First Chorus (Bet Now: $2.20) is humming at the moment for Lindsey Smith. Gritty win at Caulfield Heath last time, finding plenty under pressure to fend them off and score. Flying, she does command respect once again.

6 Justadeel (Bet Now: $3.40) commands respect off his return at Rosehill where he was good against the up/in bias when fourth to stablemate Carbonados. He doesn’t mind getting his toe in and has good upside to come.

1 Regal Zeus (Bet Now: $7.00) comes back to Melbourne after two runs in Queensland during the Winter, failing to fire each time he stepped out. He races best when on speed and has control so if that eventuates, he takes running down.

2 Incognito (Bet Now: $4.00) looks to be humming for Michael Freedman. He was a quirky horse as a juvenile despite showing talent and yes, it’s only trials, but he looks to have matured and come right on. I think he’s here to play and here to make an early statement…just here for a kill I suspect en route to the Moir.

Very interesting runner is 3 Divine Dot (Bet Now: $6.00), a short course specialist that resumes for John McArdle, and I say interesting because Jamie Mott is booked to ride at 54kg (likely rides over), and he’s a rider who rarely gets down that low. Trialled well, will press forward and only run well.

5 Jacaranda (Bet Now: $13.00) is a few weeks between runs since resuming in the Lightning at Morphettville when off speed and was okay late without threatening behind Cavalry Girl. Fitter, back to her own age, she’s one for exotics.

14 Conscience (Bet Now: $4.20) comes back to 1000m after resuming over 1200m here, sitting off speed and worked home pretty well late in the piece when second to Queen Christine. Back to a fast run 1000m, she’ll sit off speed and launch late.

1 Saluted (Bet Now: $4.60) is a short course specialist that appeals here. Track/distance winner last start, landing near the speed and was strong to the line in scoring. Good track/distance stats, short course type, she is hard to beat.

5 Mrs Archibald (Bet Now: $19.00) likes getting her toe in, as seen at Bendigo last time when on speed and she found plenty under pressure to fend them off and score. Good racing style, she is one for exotics.

7 Cavalry Girl (Bet Now: $2.45) is a short course specialist for Tom Dabernig that was dominant at Caulfield Heath last time, leading throughout and she gave nothing else a look in, winning comfortably and running time. Keen to see how she goes here, maybe with an eye towards the Moir?

8 Stokke (Bet Now: $34.00) was a total forgive behind Cavalry Girl IMO. The market said she had three legs, was nowhere near fit and ran accordingly. Had jumped out super beforehand and with luck from the draw, she can threaten.

10 Bazaball Rewarded (Bet Now: $9.50) was very game in defeat behind Cavalry Girl two weeks back at Caulfield Heath, sitting wide no cover throughout yet stayed on really well to finish third. Not sure she is good enough to win but is one for exotics.

7 Gold Coast Belle (Bet Now: $2.25) is a beauty for Danny O’Brien that resumes. Her prep last time in ended on a high when taking out the Bendigo Guineas. Looks to have jumped out well, will stalk Tennessee Bound and be very strong late.

2 Tennessee Bound (Bet Now: $2.90) is 6/6 to start his career. Been very well placed by Ciaron Maher and comes here several weeks between runs since a win at Caulfield when leading throughout. Clearly commands respect here.

9 Romantic Encounter (Bet Now: $11.00) is a Team Hayes trained four year old that resumes. He is first up, his last run coming in the Australian Guineas when down the track behind Observer. Lands on speed I think and has jumped out well.

15 Lovelycut (Bet Now: $6.00) ran second to Changing Colours two weeks ago at Caulfield Heath. Thought she was given a peach steer and was there to win but had no answers late for the in form mare. Racing well and should be around the mark.

9 Stay Silent (Bet Now: $4.80) is flying for Ciaron Maher. Brilliant ride from Johnstone saw him win at Caulfield Heath last time, making an early move, going for him and finding under pressure to score. Hard fit, in form, he commands respect.

4 Ziryab (Bet Now: $34.00) is first up for Ciaron Maher. He hasn’t raced since March 28 when down the track at Flemington behind Zakouma. Might need the run but can sprint well fresh and is okay on wet ground.

NEXT BEST: Race Seven Number 7 Cavalry Girl

LONG SHOT: Race Nine Number 15 Lovelycut
