Red Verdon to run in the Epsom Derby

Red Verdon will be a late entry for the Epsom Derby with champion jockey Silvestre de Sousa to ride.

Trainer Ed Dunlop said owner Ronnie Arculli was prepared to pay the STG75,000 ($A152,361) to put the colt in Britain’s premier Classic following his two wins this month.

Red Verdon races in the same colours as his late stablemate, three-time Melbourne Cup runner-up Red Cadeaux.

β€œThe decision has been made that, subject to health checks, the horse will be supplemented for the Derby,” Dunlop said.

β€œWe still don’t know how good this horse is, but he has a very ambitious and excited owner who is always up for a challenge.”
