Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr’s exciting acquisition, Kitty Rose, is set to race in the Listed Sir Henry Cecil Stakes (1600m) at Newmarket on Friday morning. After facing 29 rivals at Royal Ascot, she’ll now contend with just five opponents. Spring targets include the Golden Eagle and Empire Rose Stakes.
Kitty Rose finished fifth in the Sandringham Stakes, carrying 61.5kg in her first run for her new connections. She’s marked as a $3.50 second favourite with online bookmakers.
“She has really come on for that run,” Kent Jnr said.
“This race is notoriously targeted by Newmarket’s better trainers. The favourite, Lead Artist, looks like a weapon, but Oisin (Murphy) knows her well now.”
Purchased after early successes, Kitty Rose impressed despite a tough run at Royal Ascot.
“I feel like we tried to achieve mission impossible,” Kent Jnr admitted.
Expected to race in the UK a few more times before the Spring Carnival, Kent Jnr added, “We want to learn about her and have her fit when she lands.”
The Sir Henry Cecil Stakes runs at 1:45 am (AEST) Friday morning.
