The Carnival should start with a short priced elect getting the job done via 6 Palace Pier (Bet Now: $1.40). He’s a rising star in the UK, winning seven of eight, with his lone defeat coming here, but he has won here since in great style. Arrogant win in the Lockhinge at Newbury and while his racing pattern isn’t flash, he just looks to have a bit too much on this lot.

Danger

5 Order Of Australia (Bet Now: $7.50) is the very interesting runner. They tried him as a 2400m horse last year for the most part, but they reverted to the mile in the Breeders Cup Mile in November and the result was an outstanding win in beating a world class Circus Maximus. If there is going to be an upset, he is the horse to do it.

Long Shot

4 Lord Glitters (Bet Now: $29.00) is an absolute beauty for David O’Meara that is a proven performer in this race on a number of occasions. He had a very good prep at Meydan during the World Cup Carnival and while he is getting on in years, he’s racing well still and will be running on strongly late.

Race 2. (00:05) COVENTRY STAKES (GROUP 2) 1207m

5 Dhabab (Bet Now: $5.50) is big odds at double figures IMO. Debuted for the Gosden camp down the straight at Leicester when well supported late and I loved the way he changed speed when asked to go and was too good. Clearly a harder assignment here but he’s proven at 1200m, he’ll be strong late and in a leading camp.

Danger

17 Kaufymaker (Bet Now: $6.00) is a fascinating runner. One of a number of Wesley Ward juveniles that is being aimed at this Carnival. I find her fascinating for a few reasons. First, she is a filly taking on the boys. Two, John Velazquez has been in quarantine for this ride and the final factor is while Wesley Ward has been dominant at this Carnival over the years, all of his winners have come at 1000m. Can this filly stretch her brilliance to 1200m?

Long Shot

2 Berkshire Shadow (Bet Now: $12.00) looks a knockout chance. He was tardy away when debuting at Newbury but he tracked up nicely before easing to clear air and launched late to win and win impressively. Draws out, so he’ll get clear air, and with good speed in front, he’ll get his chance to launch late.

Race 3. (00:40) KING'S STAND STAKES (GROUP 1) 1005m

Back Me

The best horse in this race is clearly 2 Battaash (Bet Now: $3.00). He is on par with Nature Strip as the best 1000m horse in world racing. Just all depends how he is is going because he is fresh off an injury lay off and that is why you’re getting around $3 and not even money. If he is anywhere near right, he is just better than these and will win accordingly.

Danger

16 Winter Power (Bet Now: $4.50) is the new kid on the block. Talented filly for Tim Easterby that comes here off the back of a very sharp win at York in the Westow, with sustained speed from the front coming to the fore. Greatest test to date here, but she’s a filly in form, will be on speed and is a 1000m specialist.

Long Shot

3 Extravagant Kid (Bet Now: $6.00) is a key threat at odds, even though Ryan Moore jumps off to ride something else at a bigger price. He jumps off after the pair combined to win impressively in the Al Quoz on World Cup Night at Meydan. He’ll love the firm deck being dished up for this meeting and be strong at the end.

Race 4. (01:20) ST JAMES'S PALACE STAKES (GROUP 1) 1602m

I think double figures is enticing with 12 Thunder Moon (Bet Now: $9.00). Started $5.50 in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket and his race was over in the mounting yard. He made sure everyone knew he was a colt, with his fifth leg on full display and he didn’t go a yard, so the mounting yard will be crucial to his chances. If he is switched on, he has the brilliance to beat these.

Danger

1 Battleground (Bet Now: $6.00) will be a big improver from the 2000 Guineas I feel. He paraded with a gut on him and ran accordingly, but keep in mind he was only resuming there due to the stable scratching from the Irish 2000 Guineas due to wet ground. He gets a dry deck here and can easily bounce back.

Long Shot

Not sure what to make of 13 Wembley (Bet Now: $26.00). I liked him in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket but he did little I thought after seemingly getting every chance but Ryan Moore said post race that the horse didn’t handle the track. His best is good enough, so giving him another look.

Race 5. (02:00) ASCOT STAKES (HANDICAP) 4014m

Back Me

Playing it safe and going with 8 M C Muldoon (Bet Now: $5.50), with Ryan Moore to steer and Willie Mullins to steer. Just noting too with the stable, at the time of writing (Monday), he has produced 12 winners from his last 26 runners at 46%, which is just off the charts. The stable loves to target these races and generally their #1 seed is ridden by Moore. His recent runs over the jumps have been good, he’ll get a soft run in transit and be strong at the end.

Danger

7 Rayapour (Bet Now: $13.00) looks a key threat. Stablemate of M C Muldoon that resumed in a Kilbeggan hurdle race and I thought had his chance when third and on face value, have to mark him down as disappointing. Gets Derby winning rider Adam Kirby to steer and is in the right camp.

Long Shot

18 Just Hubert (Bet Now: $9.50) is racing well for the Muir/Grassick camp. This guy resumed at Haydock and worked to the line pretty well in an encouraging return when third. He looks like a horse that will love the rise to 4000m and Tudhope has a great record on the horse, winning two of three.

Race 6. (02:35) WOLFERTON STAKES (LISTED) 2004m

Back Me

6 Blue Cup (Bet Now: $7.50) on top in a pretty solid edition of the Wolferton. He gave them an absolute spanking at Epsom on Oaks Day, winning by over five lengths and running really good time relative to the meeting, with some of his splits in the race running quicker time than the other feature races. He’ll need luck in the run but if he does get it, he’ll take a power of beating.

Danger

4 Solid Stone (Bet Now: $6.00) is heading in the right direction for Sir Michael Stoute. It was an outstanding steer from Ryan Moore to get the job done at Windsor, with the tactics to stick towards the near rail proving to be the difference. Should land in a plum spot from the draw and is hard to beat.

Long Shot

1 Euchen Glen (Bet Now: $21.00) could be one to include in wider multiples. He comes here off the back of a pretty impressive win at Group lll level when bolting up over 2000m at Sandown. It was a field of four, but he was the outsider in the field and he spanked them. Clearly harder here, but one at odds I could entertain as a first four threat.

Race 7. (03:10) COPPER HORSE STAKES (HANDICAP) 2847m

Back Me

Moore/Mullins for me in the get out via 2 Saldier (Bet Now: $3.75). Pretty smart hurdler when right but resumed on the flat at Listowel, his first run on the flat in four years, and he spanked them winning by seven lengths and pretty much sums up how well the stable is going at the moment. I’ll bank on the proven combo to get the job done.

Danger

12 Global Storm (Bet Now: $4.50) placed at Royal Ascot last year in a handicap race and I think fast forward 12 months on, he is a better horse. Super win last time out at Newmarket and is 1/1 at the trip, which is a big tick. That last start effort was a career peak re figures, so he has to be respected.

Long Shot

15 Arthurian Fable (Bet Now: $9.00) is in with a shout here at odds. He does like firm ground, so he will get conditions to suit. Resumed behind Global Storm at Newmarket where he was back near last in the run and despite never being a winning threat, I liked the way he finished off. Suited here I feel and is big odds, so could save on him.
